Mother's Day Gifts -Procrastinate? Last Minute Ideas

If you haven't gotten a gift for your mom or the mother of your children yet, you need to do it today, but just because it's last minute doesn't mean you have to wind up wandering the aisles of Wal-Mart and buy a dissapointing teddy bear holding plastic roses - not okay.
Here's some things guaranteed to make her smile:
Go to Victoria's Secret and pick up some satin or silk PJs, a perfume set, or a gift certificate.
Go to a nearby spa and pick out a spa day package and get a gift certificate for it.
Go to a local nursery and pick out a flower bush, tree, orchid or plant that is your mom's style. The nursery can help make sure it's right for her, just tell them what region she lives in and what kind of other plants she has at her house (don't get a high maintenence plant if she's busy)
More Ideas:
Victoria's Secret at ShopStyle

A Summer Scarf- Flowy Pretty Colors. Shop: Nordstroms, Saks, Kohls, Banana Republic, Forever 21, H&M
A Classic Purse- Black, Brown, White, Hobo, Clutch, Satchel, Big Enough to hold her stuff. Shop: Coach, Coach Outlet, Nordstrom, Saks, Fossil, Dooney & Bourke, Nine West, Marshall's, Ross
Timeless Jewelry- Nothing too cheesy - the heart with the baby in the middle is sweet, but not too wearable - Classic Pearls (don't know if they're still on sale, but Macy's had some pretty ones for 15 and 20 dollars!), This Spring's style is the Statement Necklace, long layers, chunky, exotic. Real gold or Silver Bangles are classic, Vintage Brooches are always fun, Statement Cocktail Rings are also stylish this season. Shop: Kay Jewelers, Jewelry Stores in the Mall, Kohls, Macy's Nordstrom, Saks, Vintage Shops.
Pajamas- Silk, Satin, Cotton, Comfy and Pretty. Shop: Victoria's Secret, JC Penney, Saks, Nordstrom, etc.

Don't forget a thoughtful card- or make your own! Here's some quotes to put in your cards:

Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn,
Hundreds of bees in the purple clover,
Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn,
But only one mother the wide world over.
~George Cooper

The sweetest sounds to mortals given
Are heard in Mother, Home, and Heaven.
~William Goldsmith Brown

God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers. ~Jewish Proverb

You don't really understand human nature unless you know why a child on a merry-go-round will wave at his parents every time around - and why his parents will always wave back. ~William D. Tammeus

Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. ~Elizabeth Stone

Maybe this is cheesy, but something you can make up with the kids: Write her name vertically down a piece of paper and use each letter to describe her (My mom is Victoria, so this is shortened):

Very loving, sweet, beautiful, and full of joy!

Is always thoughtful, encouraging, and the brightest smile in the room!

Cares for all her children and grandchildren the way only an angel of a mother could!

Kooky and fun, like a mom should be, laughs, dances and sings with me!

I LOVE YOU MOMMY!

MUST DOS for your "Babies' Momma" And if she's pregnant with your first- CELEBRATE HER, THIS IS HER FIRST MOTHER'S DAY- Make it special!!!:

LET HER SLEEP IN
MAKE HER BREAKFAST IN BED
DO SOME CHORES AROUND THE HOUSE
TAKE SOME INITIATIVE WITH THE CHILDREN
MAKE DINNER AND DO THE DISHES
HELP THE KIDS MAKE SOME CARDS FOR HER
GIVE HER A BACK MASSAGE. NO EXPECTATIONS.
GIVE HER A FOOT MASSAGE. FOR LONGER THAN 5 MINUTES.
FOLD THE LAUNDRY FOR HER.
WATCH A GIRLY ROMANTIC MOVIE WITH HER, AND ENJOY IT, OR AT LEAST PRETEND TO ENJOY IT.

Mom's work very hard all day long, every day, so give her one day to feel like the Queen that she is!

Now that you're a mom and you know what it's like, if you haven't told her, tell your Mom tomorrow how much you appreciate all of the worry, sacrifice, hard work, and sleepless nights. Once I became a mom, I saw my own mom in such a different light, with so much more respect and love, we became closer than ever.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Glamorous Moms out there, because ALL MOMS ARE GLAMOROUS!!

MWAH! -Joy

A friend asked me to help her find a sexy top that she can wear to Vegas - here are a few different options and how I would wear them for a fun getaway to Vegas! I'm so jealous! Automatically when asked to find a sexy top for Vegas- the first place I think of to send her is Bebe!! If there's one place I know I can rock my bebe dresses and tops (definitely not the pta meeting or the grocery store!) it's Vegas Baby! So, here's my favorite Bebe looks:

Bebe at ShopStyle

Also, Express is having some amazing deals online right now- an extra 20% off of their already reduced prices- some shirts are $7.99! Click Here to go to their sales!

The next set of looks pairs sexy tops with skirts - the ultimate in feminine!
Great for dinners, shows, dancing, comedy clubs, or just gambling.
Charlotte Russe at ShopStyle

Now we have a bunch of looks with pants - more for daytime, dinners, shopping, gambling, or hanging out!
Bebe at ShopStyle

I think the nice thing about Vegas is that there are so many walks of life that you really can be whoever you want there- I'd take that opportunity to go crazy, let loose, and have a good time, wear something you wouldn't normally wear!

For shopping in person on a budget, I'd stop by H&M, Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, Love Culture where you can pick up a different shirt for every day at their great prices! The next step up, a more statement piece kind of shirt, I'd stop by Guess, Bebe, Arden B, Banana Republic, Express, or White House Black Market.
For shopping online try shopstyle (where I created the collages) they find tons of items for you, just type in: ruffles, or chiffon, or any other favorite aspect of what you like. I have a stylebook of looks there (including the ones above):

I also have tons of lists of clothing ideas at thisnext.com:

I hope this helps and have a great time letting loose in Vegas!! Let me know what you wind up wearing!!

38 Minute Thursday! My Recipe for Pansit !

Recipe for Pansit!
I actually timed myself and it took me 38 minutes to make this from pantry to plate. I get 8 more minutes than Rachel Ray because I'm a mom, and while cooking dinner I'm also playing referee of sibling wrestling matches, and practicing the alphabet, and texting my husband, all while I'm cooking! My life is definitely full! ; )
Disclaimer: This is MY version of pansit- I AM half filipino, but also 3rd generation. This is a very personal Americanized family recipe and not typical of traditional asian cuisine. :) Thanks!

This Recipe Yields about 4 servings (feeds my family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 toddlers with leftovers for next day's lunch)
Ingredients:
1/2-3/4 Box of Spagetti (I like Angel Hair- cooks up quicker!)
Soy Sauce (Approx 1/8 to 1/4 cup + dash or 2)
1/2 Bag of Slivered Almonds (about 2 oz or 1/4 cup)
3-4 TBSP Cup Cold Butter (preferably unsalted)
Green Onions (approx 3 stalks)
2 Cloves of Garlic
2 Lemons
2-3 Pork Chops
Oil (I use Canola)

*Skip Ahead and Speed it up! What to Prep while waiting for water to boil: Slice green onions, Chop up pork chops into bite size pieces, about a thumbnail size, slice lemons into small wedges, smash garlic to release aroma and peel paper off.If you still have more time skip ahead and prep your almonds!

Step 1: Drop pasta in boiling water - cook to just over al dente. (DO NOT OVER COOK! IT WILL GET MUSHY!) Drain, rinse under cold water and set aside.
Photobucket
Step 2: Cut Pork Chops into bite size pieces. Heat frying pan and drizzle approx. 1 TBSP of oil in pan, once oil is hot, place pork pieces in hot pan.
Photobucket
Step 3: Use a salt shaker or jar of some sort and smash garlic so you can peel off skin. Garlic should be broken so flavor can seep into pork. Throw garlic pieces into pan with pork - Stir constantly. DON'T LET GARLIC BURN and don't throw it away, we're going to use it again.

Step 4: Cook Pork with Garlic, until it is browned and no longer pink in the middle. Once it is cooked, set aside - DO NOT WASH PAN!! The yummy garlicy pork flavored brown stuff will be delicous for your noodles!
Photobucket

Step 5: Chop Green Onions into bite size pieces and set aside.
Photobucket

Step 5: Noodles should no longer be warm (after sitting and after being rinsed under cold water). Now you need to dry them. Use paper towels to soak up as much water as possible! Do not squeeze them though, just gently soak up the water. (Drying them allows them to fry and keeps them from getting mushy)
Photobucket
Step 6: Heat pan that has all the yummy pork goodness and add 1 TBSP of the butter until melted.
Photobucket

Step 7: Once butter is melted, place half of the noodles in the pan and stir to fry, I use a pasta spoon and gently toss it. Do not mush it or abuse your noodles. If you did use angel hair, it is fragile. You just want to toss it so that every noodle touches the bottom of the pan and gets a little butter on it.

Step 8: Scoot noodles aside and add another tablespoon of butter. Once melted, add other half of noodles, and toss to coat each noodle with butter.Photobucket

Step 9: Grab those garlic pieces out of the pork and toss them around with the noodles.

Photobucket

Step 10: Sprinkle soy sauce over noodles, and continue to toss, spreading soy sauce evenly amongst the noodles.
Photobucket
Step 11: Continue tossing and frying, attempting to get at least 1/2 of the noodles cooked to a slight crisp and translucent appearence. Add pork pieces and toss around.
Photobucket

Step 12: Add Green onions and toss around.

Step 13: While that's all cooking, let's prepare the almonds! Heat a small sauce pan on medium heat and add 1/2 tbsp of butter. When melted, add almonds to the pan.
Photobucket

STIR ALMONDS CONSTANTLY untile they have a golden appearence and a delicious aroma!
Photobucket

Spoon golden almonds onto a paper towel to soak up that butter. Taste one- they're delicious (These are also awesome on top of ice cream with hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry!)
Photobucket

Photobucket

Taste noodles and add more soy sauce if you like, toss noodles with green onions and pork until the onions are just a little bit darker and limp and the noodles are to your liking.

Plate your pansit on a platter and sprinkle with almonds, adorn the sides with the lemon slices, for each plate, make sure there are a few pieces of pork, a few almonds, some green onions, and then squeeze a little bit of lemon juice on the noodles! Enjoy!
