Here's some things guaranteed to make her smile:
Go to Victoria's Secret and pick up some satin or silk PJs, a perfume set, or a gift certificate.
Go to a nearby spa and pick out a spa day package and get a gift certificate for it.
Go to a local nursery and pick out a flower bush, tree, orchid or plant that is your mom's style. The nursery can help make sure it's right for her, just tell them what region she lives in and what kind of other plants she has at her house (don't get a high maintenence plant if she's busy)
A Summer Scarf- Flowy Pretty Colors. Shop: Nordstroms, Saks, Kohls, Banana Republic, Forever 21, H&M
A Classic Purse- Black, Brown, White, Hobo, Clutch, Satchel, Big Enough to hold her stuff. Shop: Coach, Coach Outlet, Nordstrom, Saks, Fossil, Dooney & Bourke, Nine West, Marshall's, Ross
Timeless Jewelry- Nothing too cheesy - the heart with the baby in the middle is sweet, but not too wearable - Classic Pearls (don't know if they're still on sale, but Macy's had some pretty ones for 15 and 20 dollars!), This Spring's style is the Statement Necklace, long layers, chunky, exotic. Real gold or Silver Bangles are classic, Vintage Brooches are always fun, Statement Cocktail Rings are also stylish this season. Pajamas- Silk, Satin, Cotton, Comfy and Pretty. Shop: Victoria's Secret, JC Penney, Saks, Nordstrom, etc.
Don't forget a thoughtful card- or make your own! Here's some quotes to put in your cards:
Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn,
Hundreds of bees in the purple clover,
Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn,
But only one mother the wide world over.
~George Cooper
The sweetest sounds to mortals given
Are heard in Mother, Home, and Heaven.
~William Goldsmith Brown
God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers. ~Jewish Proverb
You don't really understand human nature unless you know why a child on a merry-go-round will wave at his parents every time around - and why his parents will always wave back. ~William D. Tammeus
Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. ~Elizabeth Stone
Maybe this is cheesy, but something you can make up with the kids: Write her name vertically down a piece of paper and use each letter to describe her (My mom is Victoria, so this is shortened):
Very loving, sweet, beautiful, and full of joy!
Is always thoughtful, encouraging, and the brightest smile in the room!
Cares for all her children and grandchildren the way only an angel of a mother could!
Kooky and fun, like a mom should be, laughs, dances and sings with me!
I LOVE YOU MOMMY!
MUST DOS for your "Babies' Momma" And if she's pregnant with your first- CELEBRATE HER, THIS IS HER FIRST MOTHER'S DAY- Make it special!!!:
LET HER SLEEP IN
MAKE HER BREAKFAST IN BED
DO SOME CHORES AROUND THE HOUSE
TAKE SOME INITIATIVE WITH THE CHILDREN
MAKE DINNER AND DO THE DISHES
HELP THE KIDS MAKE SOME CARDS FOR HER
GIVE HER A BACK MASSAGE. NO EXPECTATIONS.
GIVE HER A FOOT MASSAGE. FOR LONGER THAN 5 MINUTES.
FOLD THE LAUNDRY FOR HER.
WATCH A GIRLY ROMANTIC MOVIE WITH HER, AND ENJOY IT, OR AT LEAST PRETEND TO ENJOY IT.
Mom's work very hard all day long, every day, so give her one day to feel like the Queen that she is!
Now that you're a mom and you know what it's like, if you haven't told her, tell your Mom tomorrow how much you appreciate all of the worry, sacrifice, hard work, and sleepless nights. Once I became a mom, I saw my own mom in such a different light, with so much more respect and love, we became closer than ever.
Happy Mother's Day to all the Glamorous Moms out there, because ALL MOMS ARE GLAMOROUS!!
